I think my son has paranoia
How do I help him, I am beside myself with worry. He has always been a bit paranoid but it seems to have escalated recently. He believes in every conspiracy theory, work colleagues are trying to poison him, I am not to be trusted because I try to cause trouble. When after getting really angry with him at some of the dillusional things he was saying, I realised anger wasn't going to help nor would trying to reason with him about is theories so I suggested we talk to someone about his concerns but he has refused, saying there is nothing wrong with him & it is the rest of the rest of us that need help. He has now disassociated himself from me & the rest of the family & I am beside myself as I don't know what to do!
He is married with 3yr old & this also worries me. His wife also doesn't know how to help. Is there anyone out there with the same problem? I just can't watch him lose everything.

Here are some links that might help you
Here is a short 15 min talk gives 4 good strategies to help when MI enters family.

I have been recommended a book by Xavier Amador "I am Not Sick, I Do Not Need Help"
His focus is how to get a patient to accept help when they cannot see or accept they have a mental health problem.
I have not read the book but have watched his lectures on YouTube and others might find his approach helpful.

This is a coping method that the Qld mental health resources for carers website suggests.

Re: I think my son has paranoia
Hello @Obie
It is great you are reaching out to the forums for some support right now, I cannot imagine how tough it would be coping with all of that on top of seeing your son that way.
I thought I would also say that @Grasshopper3 started a wonderful thread here that you might like to read through.
There is also a great thread by @Barbara about their son here
Thinking of you,
Lunar 🙂

Re: I think my son has paranoia
Hi @Obie
That's really tough.
I hope you're getting some support for yourself - these Forums is a great place to get some of that support.
In a couple of weeks we are running Topic Tuesday here in the Forums, about caring for men who don't care about themselves. Maybe it is something you would find helpful?
If you want to check it out, you can find it here.
