Passive Aggression

Many of us might have faced, or we ourselves might have shown aggression in a passive way because of all that held-up anger. Passive aggression is a way of expressing negative feelings indirectly rather than openly addressing them. It often includes sarcasm, silent treatment, procrastination, backhanded compliments, or subtle resistance to requests. This behavior can create confusion, frustration, and resentment in relationships as issues remain unresolved. Over time, it can damage trust and communication, making it difficult to build healthy connections. In workplaces, it reduces productivity and teamwork, while in personal relationships, it can create emotional distance. Recognizing and addressing passive-aggressive behavior can lead to more open and honest interactions.

Re: Passive Aggression

Thanks for sharing @heera72 . It's certainly food for thought. I'm thinking of instances where I've be, or have seen others be, passive aggressive. Certainly important to address it.

Re: Passive Aggression

Many workplaces - dare I say Male dominated ones, primary mode of communication seems to be sarcasm. Even our very cultural identity is deep rooted in sarcasm - it's the Aussie way after all to poke a bit of fun at other's and joke around.

@heera72  My question is how we tell the difference between sarcasm and being passive aggressive? Is there a difference? Is it in the delivery, the facial expression?

It's a tricky one to navigate, I've had numerous situations where people have been sarcastic and poking fun at me. And I try to joke around a bit, but as soon as I try to communicate my boundaries assertively they tell me I'm being sensitive, and over-reacting!
